I saw my surgical team this afternoon to discuss how we will proceed now both my implants have turned.
As a quick update; I had the anatomical implants which are tear drop shaped, they have both turned so that the fullest parts are now facing toward the centre of my chest instead of downwards as they should be.
Because they have moved bits are sitting in the wrong place and pulling parts that shouldn't be pulled and this is getting a bit uncomfortable (not painful but a bit achy).

We came to a decision that the best thing to do will be to surgically remove my current implants and replace them with the round implants. That way if they turn again it wont make any difference to how they look.
This surgery will be done under general anaesthetic but it will be scheduled as a day case meaning I wont have to stay in the hospital over night and I shouldn't need any drains.
As I have had my nipple reconstruction over the original incision the surgeon will make a new incision in the fold under my breast.

I have an appointment at the end of June to measure for implant size and the surgery will be done in September.
Obviously it is a little disappointing that I have to undergo a second surgery but it will be much easier than the original mastectomy. Hopefully come September this will all be finished with!

Hi Ellie - I've just seen your message and I'm sorry to hear you have to have more ops. On the other hand you seem to be staying positive and I hope it all goes well. I remember having a chat with my surgeon about the problems associated with tear shaped implants and he would only use round ones. I hope more surgeons understand this and stop using them.

It's been 6 months since my op and my scars are disappearing well but I'm going to wait another 6 months before getting the nipple recon. I've noticed more rippling over the past few months - mainly across the top of my chest, which may be a result of round implants so ask bout this before your surgery. At first they were amazing and still are great, just not as perfect as just after surgery.

I still think its amazing what they can do these days and I hope you are happy once they have fixed them Ellie and then you can move on again. I've zero regrets about the op and hope this hasn't made you have a change of heart.

All the best,
Ruth

I have found all of this so helpful in the run up to my surgery. Just a question, my surgeon is going to use the teardrop shape implants but after reading about your experience I am thinking of asking him for the round ones? Any advice welcome! After 3 ops and chemo I am not keen to have any more surgery than absolutely necessary and comfort comes way before aesthetics!! I am an old bird and just want to prevent ever having to go through chemo again if I possibly can. Thank you for doing this it is such a great help, you are very strong and have all my admiration. Best Wishes, Claire.
