When I was researching this surgery I felt it was very important that I see pictures of the result I could expect. It is only thanks to other women posting their results on similar blogs that I could understand what I may look like post-surgery. That is why I want to make images of my results available to women who are considering this surgery.

If you are reading this out of morbid curiosity, you are a friend, family member, lecturer or anyone else who doesn't have to face breast reconstruction then please respect my privacy and don't read any further.

Please be aware that the next section contains images of my breasts post surgery. Only click on Read More if you feel that viewing these images will be beneficial to your surgery decision.

Dressings (1 weeks post op)

Picture

These are the dressings that were put on after the surgery. I have included this picture as I expected to be wrapped up like a mummy and unable to shower so these little sticking plasters were a great relief! Apart from being a bit itchy they were fine and washing was easy enough, just had to be careful not to get the plasters too wet.

After dressings were removed (2 weeks post op)

Picture

This was taken after my first full shower post-op...that was possibly the best shower ever! When the plasters came off I couldn't believe how great the scars looked, not at all raised or angry. I have been massaging them twice daily with bio oil and they have flattened even more. As you can see I still have some bruising and they're a slightly odd shape due to the strattice settling down and some swelling.

The day before nipple surgery (11 weeks post op)

Picture
I took this photo last night so just over 11 weeks since the mastectomy. You can see all the bruising is long gone and the scars have flattened out and calmed down. The implants have settled and I'm very happy with the shape. The next step is creating a nipple which is happening tomorrow morning, I will have dressings on for another few weeks and then I should be finished!

I started university last weeks in a new hospital with new people and nobody has noticed anything, I look just the same with clothes on and they probably wouldn't even notice with my clothes off!

Looking really good Ellie. I'm still waiting for a date but they tell me it will be October some time. I will only believe it when I have the letter in my hands!

I was happy to find your page. I am glad you shared your full story and situation. I have been researching and looking for my options and before and after results since I was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene.Thank You very much for this has been a big help . My surgery is in November 2013. I am a bit scared, but in reading someone else story and Your Great outcome it gives me a lil more reassurance in what I am getting done. .

Hello, I have just found your diary, wow! How positive.
I am due to have double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using silicone implants (using stratice) THIS WEDNESDAY!!
I am keeping my nipples as my consultant says that there is no need to remove them as the tumour was not near enough to the nipple ??
I am getting very anxious now. I am a single parent with no family but with an awesome group of ver supportive friends.
Thank you for this web site.
Susan,xx
